staying true to my style

I recently invested in a cinema camera (the Blackmagic Design Pyxis 6K), partly because I want to move away from using mirrorless cameras for my independent video production company. My Sony mirrorless cameras have seen better days, and it’s time to upgrade anyway. Now that I have 12-bit BRAW in my possession, I feel like shooting everything I see. The colors are better, and so is the ergonomic functionality. It’s an entirely new workflow for me, but I love every bit that this new camera has to offer.

I dislike the standard corporate videos and promotional ads I see on the internet; they are so typical and lack a compelling story. What’s in trend right now seems to be ultra-wide shots, countless Dutch angles, and speed ramping, yada yada. There’s nothing heartfelt or human about them. It’s all visual mastery but lacks emotional depth.

I love filmmaking—from shooting to weaving music and narrated voiceovers during post-production; it is my passion. It’s art. From my choice of lens to my style of creation, I feel it’s important to remain true to my vision, and I will continue to do it my way. As a creative, there’s a reason we do what we do, and most of the time we can’t or shouldn’t explain it to others; it just shows in our results.
